Joe Frederick Rust, 84, Holland

Joe Frederick Rust, 84, of Holland, died Wednesday, September 14, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Holland November 25, 1937, to Victor and Cora (Schmett) Rust. He married Jeanne Henke October 18, 1958, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.

Joe was a graduate of Holland High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, spending 16 months stationed in Korea. He enjoyed fishing and coon hunting and had several breeds of coon dogs that he’d hunt with including Bluetick, Plott Hound, Black and Tan, and his favorite, a Redbone named Pal. After 43 years of working for DMI he retired as a foreman and began making wooden toys in his pastime including tractors, wreckers, and road graders.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Rust; two daughters, Julie Hufnagel and husband Dave, Mariah Hill, and Jill Schurz, Ferdinand; one son, Joel Rust, Holland; four grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Wertman, and one brother, Don Rust.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Holland Fire Department.
