Hilbert L. Sermersheim, 89, Jasper
Hilbert L. Sermersheim, 89, of Jasper, died Wednesday, September 14, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper June 6, 1933, to Othmar and Catherine (Mehringer) Sermersheim. He married Viola Goeppner October 10, 1957, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland.
Hilbert retired after 51 years of service at Jasper Corporation in the maintenance department. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. Hilbert could fix any household product and was the ultimate handyman. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, visiting auctions, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Viola Sermersheim; two daughters, Carla Lechner and companion Jeff Bueltel and Marla Haas and husband Jerry; two sons, Greg Sermersheim and wife Sandra and Danny Sermersheim and wife Kim; 10 grandchildren, Chad Sermersheim and wife Whitney, Cara Jones and husband Shane, Logan, Jason, and Brandon Sermersheim, Tyler Lechner and wife Jessica, Megan and Mikaela Lechner, Nicholas Haas and wife Olivia, and Zachary Haas; and four great-grandchildren, Landyn and Trace Sermersheim and Kolton and Gavin Lechner.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son who died in infancy, Kent Sermersheim, one great-granddaughter, Quinn Marie Jones, two sisters, Marcella Persohn and Delores Eckerle, and one brother, Alvin Sermersheim.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity.
