Marilynn K. Sonderman, 86, Jasper
Marilynn K. Sonderman, 86, of Jasper, died Thursday, August 4, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. She was born December 8, 1935, to Francis A. and Lucille B. (Brumley) Higgins. She married James J. Sonderman September 17, 1955, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Danville, Illinois. He died March 14, 2009.
Marilynn was a 1953 graduate of Jasper High School. She owned and operated Furniture Suppliers Incorporated in Jasper alongside her husband and later her son. She was on the board of trustees of Saint-Mary-Of-The-Woods College in Terre Haute for nine years, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, the Daughters of Isabella, the St. Anne’s Society, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved golf, bowling, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family. And she received the eucharist from Pope Benedict at the canonization of St. Mother Theodore Guerin in Rome.
She is survived by two daughters, Marja Schatz and husband Mark, Siberia, and Amy Woods and husband Jeff, Coggon, Iowa; one son, John Sonderman and wife Judy, Jasper; four granddaughters, Melissa (Nathan) Toothman, Elizabeth and Julie Woods, and Shannon Sonderman, one grandson, Brian Sonderman and wife Lydia; three great-grandsons, Parker, Case, and Gatlin Toothman; and one brother, Tim Higgins.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and John Higgins.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church, St. Mary of the Woods College , St. Meinrad Archabbey, or the Sisters of Providence in Terre Haute.
