Donald L. Herring, 86, Jasper
Donald L. Herring, 86 of Jasper, died Wednesday, August 3, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in West Frankfort, Illinois, November 4, 1935, to Samuel and Hettie (Wall) Herring. He married Pasty Dean Whittington September 14, 1957, at the Heights Church of God in West Frankfort. She died September 22, 2013.
Donald retired from the Indiana Army National Guard after 39+ years of service and was a member of VFW Post 673. After retirement he worked for the Jasper Armory and the Jasper Holiday Inn. He regularly attended Crosspoint Fellowship Church in Jasper and enjoyed woodworking, watching wrestling, and spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by three daughters, Dianna Thomas (Michael Westhafer), Jasper, Kimberly Norman, Richland, and Dawn Herring, Jasper; one son, Darryl Herring, Paoli; seven grandchildren, Melissa Roach, Troy Herring and wife MaryAnn, Krystal Day and husband Aaron, Montana Norman, Caitlyn Ford and husband Scott, and Allison and Mackenzie Herring; one step-grandchild, Ariel Ragan and husband William; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren on the way; one sister, Norma Harper and husband Ron, Mt. Vernon; and one brother, Floyd Herring and wife Phyllis, West Frankfort.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Ellis B. Herring.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to Crosspoint Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial following at a later date in Enlow Cemetery in Jasper. Pastor David King will officiate. VFW Post 673 will conduct military honor rites.
