Barbara J. Neukam, 81, of Jasper, died Tuesday, June 16, at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee. She was born in Jasper October 5, 1940, to Joseph and Othello (Hudson) Bellner. She married Junior Ray Neukam January 19, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
Barbara enjoyed volunteering. She volunteered through Precious Blood Catholic Church and its school and Cathedral Health Campus and she spent time driving elderly to doctors’ appointments. She was a member of Precious Blood Church and enjoyed puzzles, reading, latch hook quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Junior Ray Neukam; four daughters, June Shimer and husband Bill and Chrissy Phillips and husband William, all of Jasper, Mary Jo Messmer, Huntingburg, and Doris Messmer, St. Anthony; three sons, Ray Neukam and John Neukam and wife Kristie, all of Jasper, and Charlie Neukam and wife Rhonda, Otwell; one sister, Betty Scuteri, New York; 15 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Neukam, who died in infancy, one sister, Evelyn Bellner Herron, one brother, Donald Bellner, one brother-in-law, Richard Scuteri, and one son-in-law, David Messmer.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Precious Blood Church. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the funerwal home. Memorial contributions can be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity.
