Joseph J. Seal, 71, Jasper

Joseph J. Seal, 71, of Jasper, died Friday, May 6, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Rantoul, Illinois, July 24, 1950, to Murel J. and Mary J. (Ash) Seal. He married Sue Streicher June 22, 1974, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joe retired from Masterbrand after many years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and with its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus and volunteered at Memorial Hospital. He loved watching sports on TV, especially the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and Indiana University Hoosiers, enjoyed music and reading and was a trivia buff. He also enjoyed time spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue Seal; one daughter, Heather Fitzgerald and husband Thomas, Blauvelt, New York; one son, Jeremy Seal, Westfield; two grandchildren, Max and Teddy Fitzgerald; three sisters, Teresa Knepp and husband Cap, Karen Graber and husband Sam, and Sharon McMullen and husband Jon; five brothers, Bill Seal and wife Chris, Bob Seal and wife Loretta, Tom Seal and wife Nancy, and Ed and Leonard Seal; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murel and Mary Seal.

Friends may call from 11 am. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. An entombment in Fairview Cemetery will follow at a later date.
