Omer Eugene “Gene” Mitchell, 86, Huntingburg (Duff)
Omer Eugene “Gene” Mitchell, 86, of Duff area near Huntingburg, died Wednesday, January 5, at The Waters of Huntingburg. He was born in Eckerty December 17, 1935, to Albert and Dovie (King) Mitchell, Sr.
Gene retired from the maintenance department at Jasper Rubber Products. He loved fishing, was a bee keeper, and raised and hunted with his coon dogs and beagles. He made wine from a variety of fruits and berries and harvested honey from his bee hives.
He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Lisa Moore, Troy; two sons, Wayne Mitchell and wife Dawn, Colorado, and Wesley Mitchell, Huntingburg; his longtime companion, Sharon Coons; one sister, Mayme Lytle, Oakland City; eight grandchildren, Shauna, Cherish, Natasha, Jeremy, Dustin, Misty, Maria, and Shawn; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tonya Moore, one sister, Frieda Jones, and two brothers, Jack and Jr. Mitchell.
