Henry George Fischer, 87, Ferdinand

Henry George Fischer, 87, of Ferdinand, died Saturday November 27, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in St. Meinrad September 7, 1934, to Norbert and Lena (Vaal) Fischer. He married Shirley M. Seng June 3, 1961, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. She died July 22, 2012.

Henry retired from Best Chairs after 25 years of employment. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, and the Huntingburg YMI. He was an avid Forest Park Ranger and Indiana University basketball fan and enjoyed following Notre Dame Football, IU basketball, and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by four daughters, Milissa Buechler and husband Tony and Rhonda Hasenour and husband Scott, all of St. Anthony, Belinda Englert and husband Paul, Huntingburg, and Anita Tobin and husband Michael, Ferdinand; 11 grandchildren, Derek and Tyler Hedinger, Brandon, Travis, and Dillon Hasenour, Chelsea Merkley, Olivia Englert, and Chanel, Austin, Landon, and Mason Tobin; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Gehlhausen, Evansville, Mary Lee Ziliak, Ferdinand, and Carol Harpenau and husband Ted, Indianapolis; two brothers, Stanley Fischer and wife Patty and Kenneth Fischer and wife Sarah, all of Ferdinand; and sister-in-law Clara Mae Fischer, St. Anthony.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Fischer, and one sister, Patricia Albert.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.
