Dennis Pius Waninger, 82, Fulda
Dennis Pius Waninger, 82, of Fulda, died Sunday November 21, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Fulda January 19, 1939, to Max and Frances (Kleiser) Waninger. He married Carol Vonderheide June 25, 1960, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.
Dennis retired from Masterbrand after 34 years of employment. He enjoyed being part of the family farm that has been in the Waninger family for 169 years. He loved spending time with the family and sitting on the porch with Sheba and Oreo while watching the birds. He enjoyed building furniture in his workshop, reading National Geographic magazines, watching PBS television, driving his 4-wheeler, and playing his German accordion with his brother Clarence at family gatherings. He was a member of The Sons of the Legion, Fulda Sportsman Club, the Spencer County Memorial Forest, and a lifelong member of St. Boniface Parish and its Men’s Sodality.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol J. Waninger; four daughters, Connie Kluemper and husband Larry and Cheryl Kluemper, all of Jasper, Debra Al-Hajeri and husband Hassan, United Arab Emeirates, and Nancy Barker and husband Mark, Indianapolis; one son, Mark Waninger and fiance’ Tracey Meunier, Fulda; 12 grandchildren, April (Bobby) Welp, Ryan (Andrea) Kluemper, Kyle (Hannah) Kluemper, Sarah Jacob, Jeri (Cody) Braun, and Khalid, Saeed, Buthayna, Sarah Al-Hajeri, Layla (Eisa) Mousa Amiri; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Mae Peters and Pauline Gogel, both of Fulda, and Agnes Witte, Huntingburg; three brothers, Clarence Waninger and wife Betty, Ferdinand, Norman Waninger, Huntingburg, and Robert Waninger and wife Diane, Lamar; and sister-in-law Hilda Waninger, Ferdinand.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Waninger, and Edgar and Alvin Waninger, who died in childhood, three brothers-in-law, Ray Peters, Zeno Gogel, and Dennis Witte, and one sister-in-law, Betty Waninger.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. (CT) Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10 a.m. (CT) Saturday at St. Boniface Church. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
