Roger H. Hoffman, 83, Haysville

Roger H. Hoffman, 83, of Haysville, died Monday, October 11, at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Haysville August 3, 1938, to Clifford and Matilda (Neukam) Hoffman. He married Rosie Wolf July 20, 2002, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.

Roger was a 1956 graduate of Dubois High School. He was a lifelong farmer at Roger Hoffman Farm LLC. After he retired he worked at Memorial Hospital in maintenance and later assisted in medical transport. He was an assistant at the Haysville Fire Department and was fire chief from 1982 to 1990. He was then active in the fire department for 33 years and received his 50-year volunteer pin. He was a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge, the Jasper Moose Lodge, the Eagles, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and American Legion Post 61 and was a former Shriner. He served on the church council at Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville and on many boards including the Haysville Water Board, the board of directors for the Dubois County Co-Op, serving from 1971-1976 and 1981-1986, and the Dubois County Bank Advisory Board in Haysville from 1973 to 1976. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, playing cards, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Hoffman; one daughter, Dawn Lueken and husband Mark, Celestine; one son, Brook Hoffman and wife Jane, Haysville; one step-daughter, Vicki Steinhart and companion Jim Kinder, Haysville; two granddaughters, Darla Beck and Kayla Hopf; two step-grandsons, Nathan Leistner and Kirk Steinhart; five great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; one great-great granddaughter; and one great grandchild on the way.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Weisman, one brother, George Hoffman, who died in infancy, and two grandsons, Dean Collins and Spencer Hoffman.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church. The Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association will hold a service at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Haysville Fire Department or Christ Lutheran Church.
