Melba S. Burger, 79, Jasper
Melba S. Burger, 79, of Jasper, died Sunday, October 10, at Legacy Living in Jasper. She was born in Princeton March 21, 1942, to Hershel and Hazel (Vowell) Mowery. She married Alfred Burger March 12, 1977. He died April 8, 2006.
Melba was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Carmel High school in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She retired in 2019 from Jasper High School where she worked for 13 years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and being with her large group of friends, doing many activities and going on day long trips with them. She was an avid card player and enjoyed playing games.
She is survived by three sons, Brian Patton and wife Sherri, Ireland, Bruce Patton, Jasper, and Clint Patton Burger and wife Christy, Chandler; one daughter, Jaleigh Long and husband Adam, Marietta, Georgia; daughter-in-law Sandy Burger, Orleans; seven grandchildren, Chris, Brent, Hagan, Darby, Peyton, Sam, and Allie; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Meredith, Owasso, Oklahoma, Janet Hill, Evansville, and Lois Patton and wife Ed, Carmel, Illinois; and one brother, John Mowery and wife Ann, Owasso, Oklahoma.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Phil Burger, and two sisters, Norma Talley and Vonda Zimmerman.
Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper.
