John A. Weidenbenner, 91, Ireland
John A. Weidenbenner, 91, of Ireland, died Wednesday, October 6, at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Ireland, March 12, 1930, to Andrew and Olevia (Durcholz) Weidenbenner. He married Esther Tretter July 21, 1951, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. She died December 27, 2015.
John was a 1948 graduate of Ireland High School. He was a poultry farmer and co-owner, with his wife and son, of Weidenbenner Eggs, Inc. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and was chosen as a member of the Brute Society. He was a past member of the German Club and was known for his storytelling of life in the past. He enjoyed dancing waltzes and polkas, attending dances with friends, and tractor-pulling with his son Denny.
He is survived by four daughters, Jane Howard, Gilroy, California, Debbie Schwenk and husband Mike, Ireland, Karen Streicher and husband Ken, Washington, and Donna Schroering and husband Ken, Evansville; one son, Dennis Weidenbenner and wife Clare, Ireland; 11 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Mehringer and Frances Waddell and husband Jim, all of Jasper, and Marilyn Eckerle, Greenwood; one brother, Bernie Weidenbenner and wife Dorothy, Jasper; and one sister-in-law, Helena Weidenbenner, Ireland.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 64 years he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Al Howard, two brothers, Morris and Jerome Weidenbenner, and two brothers-in-law, Alvin Mehringer and Maurice Eckerle.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at St. Mary Church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Church, Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, or to a favorite charity.
