Richard D. Singer, 72, Jasper

Richard D. Singer, 72, of Jasper, died Tuesday, September 21, at Northwood Good Samaritan Society in Jasper. He was born in Jasper September 2, 1949, to Raymond and Naomi (Fettinger) Singer.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of Jasper High School. He served as a deep-sea diver in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a diving instructor. He retired from the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center as an electronics and computer technician. He was a member of Dubois County Chapter 77 Disabled American Veterans, Dubois County Navy Club Ship 90, VFW Post 673, American Legion Post 147, the Legion Riders, and the Jasper Moose Lodge. He enjoyed his time in Hawaii , where he was stationed during the war, and loved visiting the ocean, especially in the Cayman Islands. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, playing golf, his dog, Sunny, motorcycles, and spending time with his friends at the Legion and his cousins Jean Dilger and Scott Sibrel.

He is survived by his daughter, Alison Walker and husband David, Odenton, Maryland; one grandson, Liam Walker; and one granddaughter, Aria Walker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Naomi Singer.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion in Jasper from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions cam be made to a favorite charity. Online Condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com.
