Byron J. Sabin, 86, Jasper

Byron J. Sabin, 86, of Jasper, died Thursday, July 29, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in St. Louis, Michigan, June 15, 1935, to Byron and Lottie (Hagen) Sabin. He married Audrey Rinckey December 18, 1955, in Alma Michigan.

Byron was a graduate of St. Louis (Michigan) High School. He received his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and worked in New York, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana, where he retired. His specialty was in the plastics industry focused on automotive and housewares. During his retirement he opened his own business, Action Crafts, and created custom woodworking items such as children’s puzzles, jewelry boxes, ornaments, and nativity scenes.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey Sabin; one son, John Sabin, Jasper; one daughter, Jeannie Ellis and husband Greg, Jasper; two grandchildren, Joshua Hicks and wife Nikki and Noel Hicks and companion Joey Locker; and two great-grandchildren, Julie Hicks and Christopher Locker.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie Miller-Sabin, one sister, Irene Mullinax, and one nephew, David Smith.
