David J. Recker Sr., 83, St. Anthony
David J. Recker Sr., 83, of St. Anthony, died Tuesday, July 13, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Ferdinand March 8, 1938, to Leo T. and Marie (Gehl) Recker. He married Beatrice L. Braunecker October 15, 1960, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. She died June 17, 2021.
David worked as a wrecker driver/mechanic for Hoffman Brothers in Jasper, for the City of Jasper at the powerplant, and as a livestock farmer. He received his certification in reflexology and deep muscle massage therapy and was part owner and operator of “Acculieve Massage Therapy.” He was a member of the St. Anthony Community Center, the Schnellville Community Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and processing his own meat, and cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter, Trish Hoffman and husband Jeff, Jasper; two sons, David Recker Jr., St. Anthony, and Mark Recker and wife Lois, Dubois; daughter-in-law Wanda Recker, Bretzville; 11 grandchildren, Beth Werner and husband Phillip, Ashley Schwenk and husband Chad, Laura Gramelspacher and husband Brian, Natalie Kamman and husband Nathan, Krista Thomas and husband Josh, Dakota Recker and husband Jade, and Malana, Zachary, Mariah, Zayden, and Myah Recker; three step-grandchildren, Luke Himsel and wife Christine and Molly and Eric Himsel; 12 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jo Buescher, St. Louis; four brothers, Leon Recker and wife Pat, Celestine, Jerome Recker and wife Sandy, Wilmington, California, Gene Recker and wife Kitty, Jasper, and Paul Recker and wife Noreen, Ellington, Connecticut.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Keith Recker.
Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church. A rosary will be prayed before the Friday visitation at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Divine Mercy Parish, St. Vincent DePaul Society, or to a favorite charity.
