Baseball Traditions continue as Local teams advance to the Semi-state and the Jasper Reds play ball again 128 years and counting

The Jasper Reds will open their 2021 season with a doubleheader today to be played at the JV field at the JHS Sports Complex.  Hoosier Town Ball will provide the opposition, game 1 is scheduled for 1:30 with veteran righthander Bo Davies (2-0) last year will start the game.  Bo is the head coach for Wood Memorial, is 12 -1 over the last 4 seasons.  Austin Gossmann, a USI grad, will start game 2.  Former Jasper High School Star, Austin Simmers and former Northeast Dubois Star Reece Bauer, are expected to be 2 major offensive threats for the Reds.  Simmers was voted the Reds MVP.  This season marks the 128th Anniversary of the Jasper Reds, believed to be the oldest amateur team in the nation.  Bill Alles begins his 23rd season as Reds Manager –making him the longest tenured skipper in the long history of the team dating back to 1893.  Bob Alles will again serve as the team’s business manager marking his 49th season with the club.
