James E. “Jim” Berg, 85, Jasper

James E. “Jim” Berg, 85, of Jasper, died Monday, May 31, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Ferdinand May 8, 1936, to Edwin and Lucille (Hassfurther) Berg. He married Kathleen Knott June 22, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale.

Jim retired as a truck driver for Winkler Foods. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers on television, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen Berg; one son, Chris J. Berg and wife Kim, Jasper; two grandchildren, Megan Hall and husband Jace and Mason Berg, all of Jasper; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Hayden, and Liam Hall; one sister, Norma Fleck and husband Dennis, Ferdinand; one brother, David Berg and wife Becky, Ferdinand; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Jeanette Berg, one brother, Lee Charles Berg, and one niece, Teresa Beier.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church, Northwood Retirement Community, or to a favorite charity. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in Dale.

Masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation and mass.
