Catherine L. “Kitty” Matheis, 94, Jasper
Catherine L. “Kitty” Matheis, 94, of Jasper, died Tuesday, April 20, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Jasper September 3, 1926, to Henry and Minnie (Rausch) Kluesner. She married Elmer “Ham” Matheis February 8, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died November 14, 1989.
Kitty was a 1944 graduate of Jasper High School. She retired from JENCO Oil where she was a secretary for a number of years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its St. Anne’s Society, loved animals, and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing piano, reading, bird watching, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and attending their events.
She is survived by two sons, Alan Matheis and wife Becky, Ireland, and Phil Matheis and wife Patti, Jasper; two daughters, Barbara Schrader and husband Tom, Ireland, and Debbie Knies and husband Keith, Jasper; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Katrina Weyer, two great-grandchildren, Eli and Isabel Taber, one sister, Clara Mae Frick, and one brother, Carl “Bud” Kluesner.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Masks and social distancing will be required for the visitation and the mass.
