Viola Jean Scherry, 89, Huntingburg

Viola Jean Scherry, 89, of Huntingburg, died Monday, February 8, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Indianapolis March 10, 1931, to Carl and Regina (Schoch) Reifeis.

Viola retired as a teacher at Huntingburg Elementary School. After retirement she worked part time at Dairyland, Holiday Foods, Carson’s/Elder Beerman, Revco/Hooks, and the Downtown Emporium. She was a member of Huntingburg United Methodist Church, the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid fan of Bobby Knight, Indiana University basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved watching sports. She was a collector of all cats, was a DIYer (do it yourselfer) of any and all things, enjoyed doing ceramics, and loved watching the QVC Channel.

She is survived by one daughter, Becky Julian and husband Matt, Huntingburg; two sons, Nathan Scherry and wife Elizabeth, Evansville, and Daniel Scherry and wife Elizabeth, Santa Claus; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Carl H. Reifeis, one sister, Rose Marie Scheib, and one granddaughter, Erin Rose Julian.

Funeral services will be private with burial following in Fairmound Cemetery. Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg is in charge of arrangements.
