Betty A. Mehringer, 82, Jasper
Betty A. Mehringer, 82, of Jasper, died Tuesday, January 12, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper May 29, 1938, to Eugene and Mildred (Heeke) Smith. She married Arnold Mehringer January 28, 1956, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine. He died April 2, 2018.
Betty was a homemaker and worked at the Chicken Place in Ireland for many years. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, the Precious Blood Ladies Sodality, and the VFW Post 673 Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, cooking, baking, tending to her flowers, and playing cards and loved spending time with her famiy.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandy Mehringer Johnson, Ripley, West Virginia, and Joyce Mehringer Siddons and Jill Mehringer Kress, both of Jasper; three sons, Wayne Mehringer, Jasper, Stan Mehringer and wife Karen, Dubois, and Brett Mehringer and fiancé Stacy Werner, Velpen; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Smith and wife Wanda, French Lick, and Dennis “Dink” Smith and wife Linda, Muncie; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Lechner and husband Tom and Rose Mehringer, all of Jasper.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Opel and Beverly Smith, and one brother, Larry Smith..
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Precious Blood Church, or the Dubois County Humane Society. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Masks and social distancing will be required for visitation and the mass.
