Joan Braunecker, 80, Jasper
Joan Braunecker, 80, of Jasper, died Thursday, November 19, at her home. She was born in Jasper April 30, 1940, to Roman and Stella (Henke) Hopf. She married Donald Braunecker October 8, 1959, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland. He died December 23, 1999.
Joan worked at the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper for 18 years, at K-Mart for five years, and retired from St. Vincent de Paul, where she worked for 11 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper since 2004, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for 40 years, where she sang in the church choir, taught religion, and belonged to prayer groups, and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntingburg for five years. She was also a member of St. Anthony Home-Ec. She made many quilts for the St. Anthony and St. Mary church picnics and enjoyed travelling to foreign countries, volunteering at Good Samaritan and Brookside nursing homes, making her family tree book and scrap books for her two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Knies and husband Rick, Jasper, and Diane Schnell and husband David, Schnellville; one son, Steven Braunecker and wife Deanna, Huntingburg; four grandchildren, Kyle Knies, Travis Schnell, Emily Ward, and Josh Braunecker; two great-grandchildren, Mason Knies and Thea Ward; and three sisters, Patricia Fleck and husband Eugene, Huntingburg, Kathy Hassler and husband Denny, Terre Haute, and Martha Blackburn and husband Danny, Evansville.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson, Jared Knies, one sister, Mary Jane Wagner, and one brother, Kenny Hopf.
