Betty J. Kempf, 81, Jasper
Betty J. Kempf, 81, of Jasper, died Sunday, November 8, at her home. She was born in Jasper September 6, 1939, to Lawrence and Clarissa (Messmer) Hochgesang. She married Eugene Kempf November 28, 1957, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.
Betty was a member of Holy Family Church, the Jasper German Club, and the Hoosier Campers Club. She and her husband travelled the United States from coast to coast and to Germany twice. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards, especially Sheepshead. In addition to caring for her own children she helped raise dozens of other children as a childcare provider for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Gene Kempf; four sons, Eugene Kempf and wife Sheila, Eckerty, William Kempf and wife Sheila, Evansville, Mark Kempf and wife Ellen, English, and Gary Kempf, Haysville; four daughters, Donna Krampe and husband John, Geralynn Smalling and husband Charlie, and Lisa Hubers and husband Jon, all of Evansville, and Jill Oeding and husband Tim, Newburgh; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Rottet and husband Clarence, Jasper; and sister-in-law and life-long friend Sue Kempf and husband Charlie, St. Anthony.
A private family visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church with burial following in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schnellville.
