Shirley J. Eckert, 80, Huntingburg
Shirley J. Eckert, 80, of Huntingburg, died Tuesday, November 3, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Frederick County, Maryland, April 17, 1930, to Norman and Goldie (Long) Smith. She married Daniel F. Eckert February 3, 1960, in Maryland. He died December 21, 2002.
Shirley was a U.S. Army veteran and a homemaker. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Catholic Church and American Legion Post 147. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, bird watching, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, D. Thomas Eckert, Doug Eckert and companion Patsy, and Bryan Eckert and wife Tara, all of Huntingburg; two daughters, Sandra Rickelman and husband Frank, Ferdinand, and Sharon Cannon and husband Darvin, Huntingburg; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Patsy Moser, Joy Musselman, Garnetta Masser, Pam Pencola and husband John, Jan Joy and husband Mike, and Cindy Davis, all of Maryland, Norma Vannoy and husband Dick, Virginia, and Carol Caniglia, Nebraska; and two brothers, Michael “Chuckie” Smith and wife Sharon and Mark Smith and wife Laura, all of Maryland..
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother.
A private family visitation will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Anthony Church with burial following the in the church cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
