Ralph J. Spayd, 91, Jasper
Ralph J. Spayd, 91, of Jasper, died Tuesday, November 3, at The Timbers of Jasper. He was born in Mariah Hill August 3, 1929, to William and Theresa (Brenner) Spayd. He married Pearlena Rasche August 31, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
Ralph was a graduate of Dale High School. He attended Ivy Tech College and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an electronic engineer and worked for a number of companies. He was a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation and Holy Family Church, a member of the church choir. He enjoyed reading, especially Westerns, and loved football. He played baseball for the Mariah Hill Reds and he and his wife enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Spayd; two sons, Stuart Spayd and Andrew Spayd and wife Megan, all of Jasper; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lovett and husband Justin; two great-grandchildren, Korie and Logan Lovett; and two sisters, Sr. Mary Carmel and Sr. Mary Carmen of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Weyer, and one brother, Alfred Spayd.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at Holy Family Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Masks will be required.
