Flora Phillipy, 94, Jasper

Flora Phillipy, 94, of Jasper, died Wednesday, October 21, at the Good Samaritan Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Bretzville December 23, 1925, to Anthony and Gertrude (Bretz) Schwartz, the youngest of a family of eleven. She married Robert Phillipy May 1, 1948, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bretzville. He died July 17, 2020.

Flora was a lifelong, active member of St. John’s Church, the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center auxiliary, American Legion Post 147 auxiliary, and volunteered for Angel Worx. She enjoyed bowling and was secretary/treasurer of Eastown’s Tuesday Morning Ladies Bowling League for 28 years. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching Indiana Pacers basketball, crocheting, sending greeting cards, working outside with her flowers, and attending family gatherings with her nieces, nephews, and their families.

Flora is survived by nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Arthur, Edgar, Alvin, Carl, Gilbert, Elmer, and Alfred “Pete” Schwartz, and three sisters, Helen Rademacher, Mildred Welp, and Ardella Meyer.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Cemetery, Ronald McDonald House, or Tri-Cap’s Abused Children’s Program. Funeral services at noon Monday at the funeral home followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Pastor Dan Sergesketter and Steve Oeth will officiate.
