Thomas Allan “Tom” Reck, 82, Terre Haute

Thomas Allan “Tom” Reck, 82, of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, October 14, at his home. He was born in Indianapolis December 15, 1937, to Luther and Dorothy (Kalb) Reck.

Tom was a 1955 graduate of Dubois High School and a 1958 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University). He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. While in service he was sports editor for the Fort Dix Post. He became a well-known sports journalist for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star from 1968 to 2000 and was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. He is also an inductee of the ISU Athletics Hall of Fame and the Terre Haute Golf Association Hall of Fame. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Terre Haute and Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346.

He is survived by one sister, Sue Lorey and husband Ralph, Dubois; two nephews, Douglas Lorey, Dubois, and Duane Lorey, Ferdinand; two nieces, Deborah Kurtock, Fishers, and Donna Stemle, Jasper; 10 great-nieces and great nephews; and five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Dorothy Reck.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 645 Poplar Street in Terre Haute and at noon Sunday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois with burial following in the church cemetery.
