Ronald E. Opel, 84, Brownsburg

Ronald E. Opel, 84, of Brownsburg, died Sunday, October 18. He was born August 28, 1936.

Ron was a 1954 graduate of Jasper High School where he was a member of the Wildcats basketball team. He retired from Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis after more than 30 years of employment. Following his retirement he worked for Thrifty Car Rental.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Opel; three sons, Douglas Opel and wife Julie, Thomas Opel and wife Tammy, and David Renschler and wife Larana; four daughters, Rhonda Davidson and husband Greg, Denise (Sharon) Opel, Judy Siemers and husband Bob, and Sandy Patton and husband Dennis; one brother, Thomas Gene Opel and wife Irene; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Convey, one brother, Ken Opel, and two grandchildren, Mallory and Meredith Opel.

Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at Matthews Mortuary, 690 East 56th Street in Brownsburg followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. In compliance with current conditions and regulations guests are required to wear face masks and observe social distancing.
