Robert L. Steffen, 92, Jasper
Robert L. Steffen, 92, of Jasper, died Sunday, October 18, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper January 27, 1928, to Roman and Margaret (Rohlman) Steffen.
Bob was a graduate of Jasper High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Crane Naval Base where he worked as a chemist for several years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and was a 56 year member of the American Chemical Society and the Association of Indiana University Chemists. He was an avid fan of Indiana University football and basketball and the stock market.
He is survived by one sister, Gertrude Steffen, Jasper; seven nieces and nephews, Karin Malone, Oaktown, Sarah Wigand and husband Simon, Jasper, Mike Terwiske and wife Kate, Las Vegas, Nevada, Deb Chamberlain and husband Chuck, Fishers, Pat Terwiske and wife Joyce, Richmond, and Nancy Cannon and Tom Terwiske and wife Rose, all of Jasper.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Terwiske.
Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. A small prayer service is scheduled at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery.
