Arthur L. Kempf, 90, Celestine

Arthur L. Kempf, 90, of Celestine, died Friday, September 18, at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington. He was born in Dubois November 10, 1929. to Bart and Mary (Heeke) Kempf. He married Ann M. Kluesner April 24, 1954, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine. She died August 7, 2011.

Arthur was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Jasper VFW Post 673 and St. Anthony American Legion Post 493. He was an independent insurance agent for many years and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Catholic Church, where he served on numerous committees, was a recipient of the Simon Brute’ Award, and a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was a member of the Celestine Community Club, the Schnellville Conservation Club, and the Jasper German Club. He was a recipient of the Celestine Distinguished Citizens Award and was a member of the Dubois County Museum where he was instrumental in the establishment of the museum. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, making wine, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Wehr and husband Leon, St. Anthony, and Karen Eisenhut and husband Mark, Dubois; two sons; Tim Kempf and wife Diane, Jasper, and Rick Kempf and wife Karen, Dubois; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Hoffman, and four brothers, Henry, Eddie, Larry, and Roman Kempf.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites. Mask and social distancing will be required for the visitation and mass.
