Gerald “Chub” Stenftenagel, 72, St. Anthony

Gerald “Chub” Stenftenagel, 72, of St. Anthony, died Wednesday, September 16, at his home. He was born in Jasper February 26, 1948, to Roman and Lilla Mae (Hopf) Stenftenagel. He married Julie Kordes May 30, 1970, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony.

Chub was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a life member of VFW Post 693 in Jasper. He retired as a parts man from Hasenour Motor Company in St. Anthony after 41 years of service and worked part time for Kitten Automotive in Ferdinand. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Catholic Church. He served on the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department, was on its board of directors, and was a member of the St. Anthony Community Center. He enjoyed camping, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University basketball fan, a NASCAR racing fan, and enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews’ sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Stenftenagel; one daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Stenftenagel. St. Anthony; four sisters, Donna Schuetter and husband Jerry, Joyce Stenftenagel, Cindy Meyer and husband Jerry, and Brenda Gehlhausen and husband Rod, all of Jasper; three brothers; Melvin Stenftenagel and wife Pat and Joe Stenftenagel and wife Deb, all of Jasper, and John Stenftenagel, St. Anthony; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie and Larry Stenftenagel.

There will be no public visitation. A private family visitation will be held at the Becher- Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to Divine Mercy Parish, the St. Anthony Fire Department, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required. Jasper VFW Post 693 will conduct military graveside rites.
