Carl D. Kaetzel, 99, Dale

Carl D. Kaetzel, 99, of Dale, died Thursday, September 10, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. He was born in Dale April 15, 1921, to Christian and Charlotte (Kokomoor) Kaetzel. He married Roberta Grace Claycamp September 5, 1948, at Santa Claus United Methodist Church. She died September 10, 2018.

Carl was a 1940 graduate of Dale High School. He was a lifelong farmer, a World War II veteran and belonged to Santa Claus American Legion Post 242. He was a member of Santa Claus UMC and enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.

He is survived by one son, Timothy Kaetzel, Florida; one daughter, Jill Kaetzel, Rockport; adopted children Velda and Bob Varner, both of Dale; one sister, Esther Fortner, Madison, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Michele Killebrew, Chicago, Jason Killebrew and wife Shaunna, Lamar, Amy Kaetzel, Holland, Ben Kaetzel and wife Jenny, New Harmony, and Hillary Harvey, Rockport; and seven great-grandchildren, Jessica and Adam Tompkins, Caleb and Reilly Lechner, Kamden Kellems, and Addison and Nolan Killebrew.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fredrick, Glenn, and Jesse Kaetzel, and three sisters, Ruth Hicks, Lois Kelly, and Inez, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Monday at Santa Claus UMC. The family requests that all Covid-19 safety precautions be practiced at the church. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
