Earlene E. Recker, 91, Jasper

Earlene E. Recker, 91, of Jasper, died Wednesday, August 19, at the home of her daughter in Celestine. She was born in Birdseye January 20, 1929, to Walter and Charlotta (Zimmerman) Newton. She had two marriages. The first was to Hubert Walter Gardner December 21, 1947. He died March 30, 1978. The second was to Edward Recker September 22, 1979. He died June 11, 1981.

Earlene enjoyed embroidery, watching birds, dancing, cards, and board games. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Brames and husband Nick, Celestine, and Linda Lehmkuhler and husband Larry, Hampton, Virginia; one son, Donald Gardner and wife Gail, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Lee, Lonnie, and Landon Lehmkuhler, Scott Clark, Nicholas and Christopher Brames, and Jeremy and Jarrod Gardner; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Ahrens, one son, Daniel Gardner, one granddaughter, Ginger Combs, one brother, James Newton, and one step-sister, Helen Merkley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to the Dubois County Humane Society. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com.
