Daniel I. Egler, 88, Jasper
Daniel I. Egler, 88, of Jasper, died Thursday, August 13, at his home. He was born in Ferdinand December 21, 1931, to Eckhart and Catherine (Blume) Egler. He married Naomi Gehl June 30, 1955, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony.
Daniel was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a mechanic and wrecker driver for Ruxer Ford, where he worked for over 40 years. He was a founding member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper where he sang in the choir, and was a member of VFW. Post 673. He enjoyed playing guitar and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Egler; two sons, John Egler, Folsom, California, and Robert Egler, Jasper; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and David Egler, Eric Frandsen, and Eve Zink; one sister, Shirley Smith, Ferdinand; and two brothers, Louis Egler, Florence, Kentucky, and Francis Egler and wife Jane, Ferdinand.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Vincent and Dean Egler, one brother, Lloyd Egler, and two sisters, Rose Mary Messmer and Janice Jones.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Precious Blood Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
