Gloria Irene Buecher, 93, Jasper

Gloria Irene Buecher, 93, of Jasper, died Monday, August 10, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Jasper September 12, 1926, to Frank and Freda (Mueller) Sermersheim. She married Philip E. Buecher August 7, 1948, at Our Lady of Springs Catholic Church in French Lick. He died January 11, 2018.

Gloria graduated from Jasper High School, attended Indiana University for one year where she worked as a secretary for two professors in the audio-visual department, and then as a legal secretary in Indianapolis.

She had a flair for interior decorating and won championship awards in bowling, tennis, and golf. She was an accomplished knitter, making afghans, scarves, and booties for family members and friends. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing bridge and euchre. She was a member and volunteer of Precious Blood Catholic Church, past president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, past president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a chairman for March of Dimes, and a Girl Scout leader for many years. She and her husband enjoyed many years as members of the Jasper Country Club, playing golf, and attending many social events.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Buecher, Louisville, Kentucky, and Jayme McComas and husband Rod, Carmel; one brother, Michael “Mickey” Sermersheim and wife Pat, Louisville; two grandchildren, Adam Edwards, Indianapolis, and Leslie Hanna and husband Ross, Fishers; and three great-grandchildren, Donovan Edwards and Theo and Elle Hanna.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Denny Sermersheim, and one sister, Mary Virginia Reese.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Precious Blood Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
