Charles V. Englert, 85, Ferdinand

 Charles V. Englert, 85, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday, August 4, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. He was born in St. Anthony July 15, 1935, to Michael and Mayme (Greener) Englert. He married Patricia Hedinger October 17, 1959, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She died March 26, 2006.

Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a past member of the Ferdinand American Legion and VFW posts. He was an auto mechanic and small business owner, managed gas stations in Ferdinand and Dale; owned a tavern in St. Meinrad; and performed maintenance for Lincoln Hills Development Corporation after retirement. He enjoyed playing steel guitar, reading, and gardening.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Englert and husband Tom, Jasper, and Sonya May and husband Bill, Cary, North Carolina; one son, Stuart Englert, Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Alice Hentrup, Jasper; one brother, Joe Englert, St. Anthony; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Bachman and Helen Weyer, and two brothers, Hilbert and Linus Englert.

.Graveside services will be held in St. Ferdinand Church cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday. There will be no visitation. Online condolences can be shared at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand is in charge of arrangements.
