Karen Rose Sermersheim, 77, Jasper
Karen Rose Sermersheim, 77, of Jasper, died Monday, July 27, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper February 27, 1943, to Wilfred “Betts” and Josepha R. (Gutgsell) Sermersheim.
Karen was a 1961 graduate of Jasper High School and attended St. Benedict College and Vincennes University Jasper Campus. She worked in the offices of Aristokraft in Jasper for 12 years, moved to Hickory, North Carolina, and worked for King Hickory Furniture in the data order entry and invoicing departments for 32 years and part time in the deli of Lowe’s Foods in Hickory. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and enjoyed crossword puzzles, oil painting, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the PGA. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Hickory for seven years and loved all animals, especially her cats.
She is survived by one sister, Jane (Karen Andry) Sermersheim, Griffin; one brother, Scott Sermersheim and wife Rosemary, Taylorsville, North Carolina; brothers-in-law Gerald Otto and wife Barbara, Jasper, and Kenneth Klein and wife Roseann, Kernersville, North Carolina; nephews Chris Otto and wife Jayme, Jasper, Todd Klein, Hickory, NC, and Ethan Sermershiem, Boone, NC; nieces Colonel Keriann Klein, Gainesville, Virginia, and Emily Sermersheim, Winston-Salem, NC; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Diana Klein and Janet Otto.
