Frieda W. Bellner Messmer, 91, Jasper
Frieda W. Bellner Messmer, 91, of Jasper, died Thursday, July 23, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Celestine April 13, 1929, to Basil and Frances (Schnell) Welp. She had two marriages. Her first was to Daniel E. Bellner October 16, 1948. He died March 25, 1991. Her second was to Peter Messmer September 20, 1997. He died November 5, 2010.
Frieda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the St. Anne’s Society, VFW Auxilary, and the Alpha Grandmothers Club. She worked at General Electric, Beck’s Restaurant, as a waitress at the Holiday Inn, and was an Avon sales representative for over 37 years. She was a vendor at the Huntingburg and Jasper Farmers Markets where she sold her homemade jellies and vegetables. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Kenny Bellner, Jasper; five daughters, Brenda Clark and husband Ivan T., Sandy Wigand and husband Jim, Jane Vogler and husband Allen, Marla Englert and husband Drew, and Connie Bellner, all of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Brian, Todd, and Kyle Wigand, Kelli Mehringer, Aaron and Ross Vogler, and Dane and Elliot Englert; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Voegerl and Martha Lange; and one brother, Herbert Welp.
In addition to her parents and two husbands she was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Ray Bellner, one grandson, Adam Bellner, and two brothers, Al and Cletus Welp.
Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 11:45 Sunday morning. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church. Funeral Services at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
