Robert “Bob” Phillipy, 98, Jasper
Robert “Bob” Phillipy, 98, of Jasper, died Friday, July 17, at the Northwood Retirement Center in Jasper. He was born near Velpen July 16, 1922, to Claude and Eva (Robinson) Phillipy. He married Flora Schwartz May 1, 1948, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bretzville.
Bob was a 1941 graduate of Otwell High School. He served with the United States Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an active member of St. John’s Church for many years and a member of American Legion Post 147 in Jasper. He enjoyed cards, being outside, family gatherings, and working Sudoku puzzles. He retired from Indiana Desk Company in Jasper after 43 years as a moulder operator.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Flora Phillipy; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Garnet Cauble.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntintburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Tri-Cap’s Abused Children Program, the Bretzville Cemetery Fund, or the Ronald McDonald House. Online condolences can be shared at www.nassandson.com.
Funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following in Bretzvile Cemetery. Rev. Dan Sergesketter will officiate at the service. Due to the coronavirus pandemic face masks will be required and social distancing observed by everyone attending the services.
