The Deo Gratias Festival offered tastings, music and good feelings

July 4th saw one of the first festivals too take place in the region this at the St. Benedict’s Brew Works in Ferdinand, Indiana. The Deo Gratias (Latin for “thanks be to God”) Beer Festival drew about 100 visitors Independence Day, a time, as stated by the brewery,”for all Americans to give thanks for our nation.” Meeting the guidelines as established by Indiana’s “Back on Track,” the grounds outside the brewery had several tents for shade which encouraged social distancing. Seating was also available inside for those who choose to sample the Brew works various micro brews.

The fest offered a variety of beer tastings, plus music, from Ben Dahlquist, on the brewery’s outdoor stage. In all co-owner Vince Luecke was happy with the turnout despite the heat and concerns about COVID 19. “Everyone seemed to enjoy the music and the beer and the camaraderie. It’s the first of some smaller social events we hope to have coming up in Ferdinand and later this year, in Jasper at the River Centre,” stated Luecke.
The brewery is located at 860 E 10th St, Ferdinand, on the grounds of the Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery and is recognized as the only brewery located on the grounds of a women’s religious community in the United States, and only the second one in the world.
