Trail around Old Town Lake in Ferdinand is complete other work continues
(NNDC) Ferdinand – The project of putting a trail around the Old Town Lake on Ferdinand’s east side appears to be complete with an 1 mile, ADA accessible, gravel path around the 20 acre lake As part of Phase 1, the trail project was completed at end of 2019. Today the trail, complete with benches and new bridges, is open for the public to use. The cost of the $435,000 project is funded through a $200,000 matching grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Land and Water Conservation Fund, with the town matching the costs either in materials that qualify as a match for the grant or in funds.

The Old Town Lake once served as a water source for Ferdinand, and the pump house that once operated the pumps still stands on the property,
though it is inoperable.
Work continues on the parking lot and other facilities including projects in Phases 2 which will convert the old pump house to an open-air shelter and add restrooms, a kayak launch and a fishing pier. Completion date is expected prior to the end of 2020.
