Anna Mae Wagner, 92, Jasper

Anna Mae Wagner, 92, of Jasper, died Friday, May 29, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Ireland August 30, 1927, to Joseph and Anna (Stenftenagel) Schmitt. She married Urban B. Wagner November 23, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He died May 30, 2005.

After raising their family on their St. Anthony farm Urban and Anna Mae moved to Jasper. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Sodality of the Blessed Virgin. She was a waitress at the Schnitzelbank for many years and a seamstress for Corbin’s Drapery in Jasper. She loved cooking, tending to her flower gardens, and quilting and making quilt tops, especially the log cabin design.

She is survived by four daughters, Marie Berry Dolletzki and husband Mike, Rosalie Hartwick, and Mary Birk and husband Terry, all of Jasper, and Ruth Wagner, Ferdinand;  seven sons; Gary Wagner and wife Marcia, Don Wagner and wife Joni, Chuck Wagner and wife Shari, and Paul W. and Amos Wagner, all of Jasper, and Bernard Wagner and wife Rita, and Roman Wagner and wife Sheila, all of St. Anthony; 20 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren (and one on the way), 12 step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and one brother; Richard “Butch” Schmitt and wife Betty, Ireland.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Wagner, six brothers; Anthony, Urban, Othmar, Ralph, Linus, and Leo Schmitt, and two sisters; Bertha Brames and Caroline Wagner.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church  with burial following in St. Anthony Church Cemetery in St. Anthony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church or the St. Anthony Church Cemetery Fund. Online condolences can be shared at
