1976 was a year to remember …The nation’s Bicentennial,

Head Coach Bob Knight led the Hoosiers to an undefeated season, capped off by an NCAA Championship. They were the last undefeated team to win the title.

And 1976 was just as memorable at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.   The 33 drivers who did make the 60th running of the Indy 500 participated in the shortest race on record.

But for Southern Indiana’s Spike Gehlhausen it was his most memorable race, in 2016 Spike was in town and guest speaker for a Jasper Rotary Club luncheon and talked about the first year he qualified in a car his father got for him.. it was a very special moment.
