Shirley May Schnarr, 79, Jasper
Shirley May Schnarr, 79, of Jasper, died Tuesday, April 7, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Campus in Jasper. She was born in Martin County October 14, 1940, to John William and Florence (Potts) Freyberger . She married Albert Schnarr May 23, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township. They were married for 60 years. He died last Tuesday, March 31.
Shirley was a 1958 graduate of Alfordsville High School and attended a business school in Indianapolis for bookkeeping. She was a homemaker, a bookkeeper, and drove a school bus for 39 years for the Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools. She was a Luther League youth sponsor and served on the Altar Guild for St. John’s Church, of which she was a member. She enjoyed square dancing, boating, Jasper sporting events, attending demolition derbies, watching game shows, sewing, attending covered bridge festivals, attending Goldie’s shows in Owensboro, playing cards, especially cinch, spending time with family and friends, and going on family vacations, including a vacation in Hawaii to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary, and a trip to Sydney, Australia in 2012,.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl L. Stemle and wife Cheryl, Jasper; one son, Jerry D. Schnarr and wife Patti, Shoals; three grandchildren, John and wife Michelle, Joanna, and Anthony Schnarr; two great-grandchildren, Michael Eugene and Kyle Luther Schnarr; and one sister, Mary Crosby and husband Dick, Loogootee.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Freyberger, and one brother, John Edward Freyberger.
