Norma Jean Schnell, 80, Dubois

Norma Jean Schnell, 80, of Dubois, died Monday, April 6, at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Dubois County March  9,  1940, to Albert and Anastasia “Clara” (Kapp) Schneider. She married Eugene Schnell February 12, 1966. He died July 19, 2006.

Norma was well known for her cooking. She was a cook at Jasper Memorial Hospital and Mathies’ Cafe in Dubois and spent many hours on the farm alongside her husband.

She was a member of St. Isadore Parish-St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, crocheting, and watching hummingbirds from her window.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Sutton and husband Brent and Kathy Tooley and husband Gary, all of Huntingburg, and Kristy Hartmann and husband Chad, Evansville; four sons, Robert Schnell and wife Becky, Celestine, Thomas Schnell and companion Sylvia Quintanilla, Dallas, Texas, Roy Schnell and wife Debbie, Jasper, and Randy Schnell and wife Keena, Dubois; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; three sisters Dorothy Hollinden, St. Henry, Elfrieda Oeding, Ferdinand, and Lucille Kleeman, Huntingburg; and one brother Arthur Kapp, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Schnell, three brothers, James, Basil, and Charles Kapp who died in infancy, and one sister, Joan Kapp, who died in infancy.

Private services will be held at the Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home downtown chapel in Jasper with burial following in St. Raphael Church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Raphael Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at
