Clifton C. “Jack” Cook, Jr., 85, Birdseye
Clifton C. “Jack” Cook, Jr., 85, of Birdseye, died Friday, March 27, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Indianapolis August 30, 1934, to Clifton Sr. and Virginia (Richey) Cook. He married Diana L. McFarland June 29, 1952. She died February 15, 2017.
Jack worked for the Eckerty Mulzer Crushed Stone plant where he retired after 40 years of employment. He was a campground host at Bear Lake and Indian Celina Lake in Perry County. He was a member and deacon at New Hope General Baptist Church in Birdseye and served as vice-president on the Birdseye Cemetery Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Snelling and husband Eli, Wickliffe; one brother, Melvin Cook, Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Dawn Detty and husband Joe, Birdseye, Shawn Cook and wife Angie, Velpen, Shanna (Chad Schmitt) Cook, Wickliffe, Erica Scherzinger and husband Ryan, Jasper, Chris Cook and wife Ashley, Newburgh, and Andy (Dana McBride) Snelling, Wickliffe; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kristen Detty, Levi, Wyatt, and Grace Allinger, Hunter and Evan Snelling, and Paige, Meredith, and Grayson Cook.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Clifton “Cliff” and Doug Cook, two brothers, Norman Cook and Bill Barley, and two sisters, Wanda Lane and Cleo Simpson.
Private funeral services Monday at New Hope General Baptist Church with burial following in the Birdseye Cemetery. Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be shared at www.nassandson.com.
