Upcoming Lane Closure Sure Bet to Snarl Local Traffic
The public is being advised by INDOT to expect lane closures on U.S. 231/State Road 56 in Jasper starting this month for road resurfacing. Starting around Wednesday, March 18. Contractors will begin resurfacing U.S. 231 from Bartley Street to 37th Street.
During the process there will be upgrades for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, including the installation of curb ramps. The first stage is patching and compliance work and, later this summer, the new driving surface will be installed. This will likely affect traffic signals as traffic sensors will be altered during the course of construction.
Restrictions will be in place around the clock. Work is expected to be complete by the beginning of August depending upon weather conditions. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times, and lanes will be restricted to 10 feet. Wider loads should seek an alternate route using the nearest numbered state route, U.S. highway or interstate.
Drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert for the safety of the workers.
