Rita M. Egler, 75, Jasper
Rita M. Egler, 75, of Jasper, died Tuesday, February 25, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper January 17, 1945, to Albert and Apollonia (Schmitt) Giesler. She married Gary L. Egler July 15, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
Rita was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She and her husband Gary were founding members of the DeutscherVerein German Club in Jasper. She served as the club’s treasurer for 20-plus years. She was also active with the Jasper Strassenfest, where she served on the committee, and the Jasper Tri Kappa for 50 years and served on a number of committees. She enjoyed playing cards, crafts, making flower arrangements, playing golf, going to lunch with her friends, babysitting for friends and relatives, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Gary L. Egler; two daughters, Debbie Mann and husband Matt, Greenwood, and Jennifer Ulsomer and husband Chris, Fishers; one son, Tom Egler and wife Kim, Bloomington; five grandchildren, Chloe and Eli Mann, Gavin and Brynlee Egler, and Henry “Hank” Ulsomer; one sister, Frances Goodman and husband Jack, Celestine; and sister-in-law June Giesler, Jasper.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Lueken and Marie E. Denu, and one brother, Urban Giesler.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Dubois County Community Foundation – Jasper DeutscherVerein (German Club) Endowment, or to a favorite charity.
