Janet McPherron Anderson, 88, Port Orange, Florida
Janet McPherron Anderson, 88, of Port Orange, Florida, died Sunday, February 23, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Washington February 8, 1932, to Homer and Ruth (Greenwood) Perrine. She had two marriages; She married Charles McPherron June 5, 1951, at St. Simon Catholic Church in Washington. He died in 1997. She married Thomas Anderson April 10, 2006.
Janet graduated from Washington High School in 1950 as the class valedictorian. She earned bachelor’s (psychology) and master’s (social work) degrees from the University of Evansville. She worked in at the Southern Hills Counseling Center and the Area 16 Council on Aging. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority and the Sweet Adelines International, performing in both the Evansville and Daytona Beach, Florida, choruses. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Anderson; three daughters, Mary Jeanne Schumacher and husband Riley, Huntingburg, Caroline Goodman and husband Dave, Lee;s Summit, Missouri, and Nancy Chaney and husband Ray, Santa Claus; two sons, Michael McPherron and wife Ellen, Huntersville, North Carolina, and Stephen McPheron and wife Jaclyn, Huntingburg; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Elva Ruth Greenwood.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and from 9-10 a.m. Friday at St. Meinrad Catholic Church in St. Meinrad. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Meinrad Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery in Washington.
