Emily Margaret Michel, 33, Livonia, Michigan
Emily Margaret Michel, 33, of Livonia, Michigan, died Wednesday, February 5. She was born in Decatur, Illinois, September 24, 1986, to Kathy Ballenger Michel, formerly of Jasper, and Brian A. Michel, formerly of Huntingburg.
Emily was a 2004 graduate of Novi High School in Novi, Michigan, where she was a varsity cheerleader, an academic all-state sprinter, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was a student of ballet for 12 years and an accomplished pianist. She was a 2008 graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She was a pediatric nurse for 10 years at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California. More recently she enjoyed nursing in home health with Beaumont Hospital Systems, Custom Home Health Care, and J&B Medical. She loved children, dogs, cats, cooking, baking, entertaining, holidays, and family time
She is survived by her mother, Kathy, Farmington Hills, Michigan; her father, Brian and wife Terri, Monroe, Ohio; her paternal grandmother, Doris J. Michel, Huntingburg; her godmother, Karen Ballenger Brush and husband Chris, Grand Rapids, Michigan; her godfather, Evan Michel and wife Tracey, Huntingburg; aunts Beth Ballenger Otto, Bloomington, and Diane Jones and husband Brian, Velpen; uncles Mike Ballenger and wife Connie, Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Todd Ballenger and wife Jill, Springfield, Illinois; great uncles Terry Krodel, Jasper, and Gene Michel and wife Lula, Santa Claus; great aunt Barbara Hevron and husband James, Newburgh; cousins Dan and Jonah Otto, Andrew, Michael, Roman, and Rose Ballenger, Ruth Roberts, Zach Eckert, Alexzandra, Aidan, and Jack Michel; and Nicholas Mayle and Harper.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hugh and Shirley Ballenger of Jasper and Ralph Michel of Huntingburg.
Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at O’Brien Sullivan Funeral Home in Novi, Michigan. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
