Mildred C. Van Winkle, 85, Ferdinand

Mildred C. Van Winkle, 85, of Ferdinand, died Wednesday, January 29, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Siberia January 8, 1935, to Henry and Elizabeth (Moog) Ernst. She married Harold Van Winkle June 26, 1954, at St. Meinrad Archabby Church.

She was a 1953 graduate of Bristow High School. She worked at Masterbrand, was a co-owner of Van Winkle Sporting Goods, and retired from CVS. She enjoyed painting ceramics, baking, sewing, and quilting. She was a member of Christ the King parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and the Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxilary.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Van Winkle; three sons, Gary VanWindle and wife Rhonda and Don Van Winkle and wife Sue, all of Bretzville, and Ken Van Winkle and wife Sara, Santa Claus; two daughters, Debbi Nord and husband Daniel and Pam Kluemper and husband Albert, all of Ferdinand; 18 grandchildren, Chad Nord and wife Brandy, Brandon Nord, Whitney Holmes and wife Jonathan, Bryce Nord and wife Jessa, Stephanie Van Winkle and husband Jacob, Reece Van Winkle and wife Brittany, Casey Van Winkle and wife Lacey, Carmen Van Winkle, Cody Van Winkle and wife Kayla, Preston Van Winkle, Cameron Van Winkle, Lucas Kluemper and wife Jennifer, Taylor Scherzer and husband Matthew, Kelly Van Winkle, Victoria Van Winkle and husband Miles, Chelsea Pior, Allison Berry and husband Craig, and Katelyn Weber and husband Jason;

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Valeria Brownlow, and one brother, Eugene Ernst.
